EL OBEID JUNE 24: The UN Security Council said in a statement on Saturday that the risk of mass atrocities against the civilian population in El-Obeid is “imminent” after RSF forces surrounded the city. The Rapid Support Force’s advance, escalated shelling and drone attacks on the capital El-Obeid in Sudan have prompted the UN Security Council to react: “Lay down your weapons now,” it says.

El-Obeid is located in North Kordofan and is an important junction between the capital Khartoum and the Darfur region. The town was retaken by the Sudanese military in February and has since been partially besieged by the RSF.

The terrorist organisation is launching air strikes on El-Obeid right now and the armys anti-aircraft systems has opened counterfire against strategic and suicide drones. RSF Targets Hospital in El-Obeid, Knocking Surgical Departments Out of Service. Large sections of a hospital in the city of El-Obeid were subjected to a direct attack by a drone belonging to the RSF, resulting in the complete destruction of the surgical and dental departments, as well as the inpatient wards.

The attack injured several working medical personnel and caused severe damage to the infrastructure and vital medical equipment. This direct targeting of medical facilities is part of a continuous series of violations affecting civilian and service institutions in North Kordofan State.

The situation in the city of El-Obeid is currently highly critical and progressively tense, as the city endures the most violent military escalation since the start of the conflict.

The Rapid Support Forces are besieging the city from three fronts (east, south, and west), amid confirmed international reports of massive military mobilizations in preparation for a large-scale ground assault to storm the city.

The Sudanese Air Force is conducting intensive airstrikes and preemptive strikes targeting RSF gatherings and supply lines in the areas surrounding El-Obeid

The city is witnessing continuous and heavy shelling by drones (both strategic and suicide drones) directly targeting infrastructure, as well as vital and civilian facilities. This constitutes the conditions for war crimes under international law.

There is a severe and disastrous shortage of food, fuel, and medical supplies, with prices skyrocketing drastically as it remains nearly impossible for any humanitarian or commercial supplies to enter.
