EL OBEID JUNE 29: Dead and wounded in renewed attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the city of El Obeid in North Kordofan State. Among the casualties were eight students injured inside their classrooms when a residential area was shelled.

15 civilians were killed in the Airport neighborhood when houses collapsed on their inhabitants. State authorities accuse the RSF of targeting vital infrastructure, while UN organizations condemned the attacks and warned of a worsening humanitarian crisis in the city.

The Rapid Support Force’s advance, escalated shelling and drone attacks on the capital El-Obeid in Sudan have prompted the UN Security Council to react: “Lay down your weapons now,” it says. The situation in the city of El-Obeid is currently highly critical and progressively tense, as the city endures the most violent military escalation since the start of the conflict.

The city is witnessing continuous and heavy shelling by drones (both strategic and suicide drones) directly targeting infrastructure, as well as vital and civilian facilities. This constitutes the conditions for war crimes under international law.
