Explosions Rock Port Sudan

Explosions have been heard in the Sudanese city of Port Sudan for the third day early on Tuesday. The exact location and cause of the explosions isn’t yet clear. The airport in the important port city has been attacked with drones. All flights have been canceled. Strikes have hit a major power station icausing a “complete power outage”, the country’s electricity provider said.

PORT SUDAN MAY 6: Explosions and fires rocked Sudan’s wartime capital Port Sudan, a witness said, part of a days-long drone assault that has torched the country’s biggest fuel depots and damaged its primary gateway for humanitarian aid in a major escalation. The city become home to the country’s primary operational airport and army headquarters. It’s also a crucial entry point for humanitarian aid in a country where 30 million people are in need. Dark plumes of smoke could be seen emerging from the vicinity of the country’s main maritime port in the city, where hundreds of thousands of displaced people have sought refuge.

The army says the perpetrator of the destruction is the terrorist organization Rapid Support Forces, led by the former camel herder Mohamed Hamadan Dagalo, popularly known as Hemedti. Residents in the city reported that attack drones launched by the RSF hit multiple locations, including a fuel depot, Port Sudan International Airport, a power station and a hotel.

The only question is whether the Rapid Support Forces have the competence to handle such an advanced weapon system as these drones, or whether the RSF is responsible for the direction – and some other, more competent, force is responsible for the execution.
