Sources reported that violent successive explosions echoed in the north of Omdurman early this Wednesday, coinciding with drone flights. Clouds of smoke rose from the explosion sites, and that the ground defenses of the Sudanese army repelled the drones. Local residents in Omdurman reported hearing explosions before sunrise, with smoke later seen rising from the Sarkab military area. There was no immediate comment from the Sudanese army. And the terrorist organisationen Rapid Support Forces did not officially claim responsibility.

KHARTOUM OCTOBER 15: Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted the Sudanese army’s military sites in Khartoum State of Sudan on Wednesday, according to local media. Media information said the Sudanese army intercepted 10 attack drones that targeted a military site in northern Omdurman, west of Khartoum state. Local residents reported strong explosions just before dawn, as smoke was seen rising from around the military area in Sirkab, north of Omdurman, following the drone strikes.

The state security committee condemned the attacks, accusing the “terrorist militia” of deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.

According to multiple local sources, heavy drone strikes occurred following yesterday’s attacks in the Ed Babikr area of Sharg Elneel locality. Reports indicate the use of both strategic and explosive (suicidal) drones, targeting several locations in Sharg Elneel and Karari localities. RSF drones also hit a military camp in the city of Bahri, north of the capital Khartoum, Sudan Tribune said.

RSF use drones to indiscriminate strikes on civilians and infrastructure. In January, a drone hit the Saudi Maternal Teaching Hospital in Al Fashir, killing more than 70 people, according to the World Health Organization. Other strikes have targeted power plants, water stations, and even marketplaces.

A Washington Post investigation revealed that RSF forces possess drones similar to those used by Houthi rebels in Yemen, as well as Chinese made FK-2000 anti-air systems, likely supplied through regional intermediaries such as the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Iran.
