TEHRAN JANUARY 13: New videos are emerging from Iran showing the government’s violent crackdown on protesters who demand the overthrow of the country’s Islamic government. The State Department is telling Americans to leave Iran as President Donald Trump announces new tariffs on any country that does business with the regime as he weighs possible military action.

Today, there were also reports that at least 12,000 people have been killed during the ongoing protests in Iran, according to a compilation by the London-based television channel Iran International. The regime states that 2,000 people have been killed. None of the numbers have been verified.

Most of them were reportedly shot to death during the night of Thursday and Friday last week. An anonymous official at Iran’s Health Ministry who The New York Times spoke to said that there are around 3,000 deaths.

It has been difficult for the outside world to follow developments since the regime last week throttled access to the internet and telephony in the country. However, the AP news agency received several calls from inside Iran on Tuesday morning, writes TT.

Witnesses, who remain anonymous for fear of reprisals, say in the interviews that text messaging services are still down and that it is not possible to access foreign websites on the internet. However, it should be possible to access local and government-approved ones.
