International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on 8 March, commemorating women’s fight for equality and liberation along with the women’s rights movement. International Women’s Day gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.

The earliest version reported was a “Woman’s Day” organized by the Socialist Party of America in New York City on 28 February 1909. The UN theme for 2026 is “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls”. This focus coincides with the 70th session of the UN Commission on Women (CSW70) which emphasizes the right to justice. The global movement at internationalwomensday.com drives the theme of “Give To Gain,” encouraging generosity and collaboration to create opportunities for women.
