PORT SUDAN MAY 4: Sudan’s army says Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have carried out a drone attack on a military airbase and other facilities in the vicinity of Port Sudan Airport. The army says an airbase, cargo warehouse and some civilian facilities were targeted in Port Sudan in the first attack in the eastern city by the RSF. There are reports of some damage after drones hit an ammunition depot.
No casualties were reported from the attacks, the spokesperson said. The RSF has not commented on the incident. The Sudanese army said that it had shot down drones targeting the Osman Digna air base and civilian infrastructure in the eastern city of Port Sudan.
Flights to and from Port Sudan, the country’s main port of entry since the start of the war, have also been suspended until further notice, a government source told the AFP news agency.
The eastern regions, which shelter a large number of displaced people, had so far avoided bombardment. There have been unconfirmed rumors that the RSF lacks the expertise required to handle advanced weapons systems such as those used in the Port Sudan attack.
