LONDON JULY 22: Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath frontman and reality TV personality, has died at 76. In January 2020, Osbourne revealed that he’d been diagnosed in 2003 with Parkinson’s disease, a nervous system disorder.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” Osbourne’s family told PEOPLE in a statement on Tuesday, July 22. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne (3 December 1948 – 22 July 2025) was an English singer, songwriter, and media personality. He rose to prominence during the 1970s as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, during which period he adopted the nickname “Prince of Darkness”.

Earlier this month he bid a farewell to fans with a Black Sabbath reunion, telling thousands of heavy metal enthusiasts at Villa Park, Birmingham – a stone’s throw from where Black Sabbath was formed in 1968 – that it was “so good to be on this stage” as he performed his last set from a large black throne.
