OSLO OCTOBER 10: The Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 is awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. María Corina Machado Parisca (born 7 October 1967) is a Venezuelan politician and industrial engineer who is currently opposition leader in Venezuela. Machado entered politics in 2002 as the founder and leader of the vote-monitoring group Súmate.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee’s motivation:
“for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”
The Nobel Peace Prize is therefore not awarded to Donald Trump. Even though he is endorsed by genocide suspect Benjamin Netanyahu and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Speaking at a US military meeting in Virginia in September, Trump said it would be “a big insult to America” if he were not given the award.
According to Norwegian newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv, Trump also called Norway’s Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg — the former NATO chief — to discuss tariffs and lobby for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Peace Prize, established under the will of Sweden’s Alfred Nobel, is given to “the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”.
