Relocation Of Gazans To South Sudan

Israel is set to hold a series of meetings in South Sudan amid a reported plan to “resettle” Palestinians from Gaza to the African nation. Benjamin Netanyahu says he wants to realize Donald Trump’s vision of relocating much of Gaza’s population through what Netanyahu refers to as “voluntary migration”. Palestinians, rights groups, and much of the international community have rejected the proposals as a blueprint for forcible expulsion in violation of international law.

JUBA AUGUST 14: The Israeli deputy foreign minister is set to hold a series of meetings in South Sudan amid a reported plan to “resettle” Palestinians from Gaza to the African nation. “These claims are baseless and do not reflect the official position or policy of the Government of the Republic of South Sudan,” South Sudan’s foreign affairs ministry said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Hamas announced that senior group leader Khalil al-Hayya arrived in Cairo for talks on reviving mediated ceasefire-hostage negotiations with Israel. Hamas official Taher al-Nono said in a statement that the group’s meetings with Egyptian officials will focus on ways to stop the war and deliver aid, among other things.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he wants to realize U.S. President Donald Trump’s vision of relocating much of Gaza’s population through what Netanyahu refers to as “voluntary migration.” Israel has floated similar resettlement proposals with other African nations.

Palestinians, rights groups, and much of the international community have rejected the proposals as a blueprint for forcible expulsion in violation of international law. Palestinians say would be like another “Nakba” (catastrophe) when hundreds of thousands fled or were forced out during the Arab-Israeli war of 1948.

In March, Somalia and its breakaway region of Somaliland also denied receiving any proposal from the United States or Israel to resettle Palestinians from Gaza.
