Intense clashes between the Sudanese army and the terrorist organisation RSF have killed at least 62 civilian people in the besieged Darfur city of El Fasher on Wednesday. Seventeen women and 15 children were among the victims in the “indiscriminate” shelling that targeted the city. It is currently unknown if government members from “Government of Peace and Unity” participated in the massacre.

EL-FASHER APRIL 18: Intense clashes between the Sudanese army and the terrorist organisation RSF have killed at least 62 people in the besieged Darfur city of El Fasher. The latest violence erupted after a fierce artillery barrage by the Rapid Support Forces — the terrorist group locked in a war with the regular army for over two years.

Just days earlier, the RSF was accused of killing over 400 civilians in El Fasher and nearby displacement camps. The RSF now claims it has taken control of Zamzam camp — one of the region’s largest — currently gripped by famine. Nearly 400,000 people have since fled the area. The local resistance committee, a grassroots aid group, said the civilians were killed on Wednesday in clashes following an artillery attack by the terrorist organisation Rapid Support Forces.

The United Nations, international leaders and aid groups have long warned of the carnage a full-scale RSF attack would bring on the beleaguered city and its environs, where UNICEF warns that at least 825,000 children are trapped.

El-Fasher, which the RSF has besieged for nearly a year, is the last major urban stronghold in Darfur still under army control.

Following the army’s recapture of the capital Khartoum last month, the terrorist organisation has redoubled its efforts to seize the city, in an apparent last stand to consolidate its hold on Darfur.

It is currently unknown whether members of the recently formed RSF government “Government of Peace and Unity” participated in the massacre.
