The Khartoum International Airport on Sunday received its first commercial passenger flight in almost three years. The Sudan Airways flight travelled to Khartoum from the Red Sea city of Port Sudan on Sunday. Al-Khatim Babiker Al-Tayeb, director general of the Sudan Airports Company, said in a statement that the airport has resumed operations with sufficient capacity for the current phase.
KHARTOUM FEBRUARY 2: Sudan’s national flag carrier Sudan Airways operated a local ticketed commercial flight arriving from Port Sudan. Its first since the start of the April 2023 war and the first regular ticketed flight to the capital since the airport’s reopening last year.
The Sudan Airways flight travelled to Khartoum from the Red Sea city of Port Sudan on Sunday, carrying dozens of passengers.
Sudan Airways said in a statement that the flight, which was announced on Saturday with ticket prices starting at $50, “reflects the return of spirit and the continuation of the connection between the sons of the nation”. Al-Tayeb added that the resumption of domestic flights is the first stage of a gradual reopening plan.
Al-Khatim Babiker Al-Tayeb, director general of the Sudan Airports Company, said in a statement that the airport has resumed operations with sufficient capacity for the current phase and can handle up to four aircraft at the same time.
