AL-TINA MARCH 18: Images posted on social media showed fighters from the terrorist organisation Rapid Support Forces firing in the air as they celebrated after reportedly seizing the border town of Al-Tina in North Darfur State near Chad, as fighting intensifies across the country’s west.

The latest heavy fighting along Sudan’s border with Chad has killed 17 people and many wounded, a medical group said. The attacks on Monday in Tina left 66 people in serious condition, Doctors Without Borders (MSF), said in a post on X on Tuesday.

On its propaganda platform, RSF states that: “Today the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) managed to successfully establish full control over the strategic border town of “Al-Tina” in North Darfur state, and, in turn, effectively liberated the town from the remnants of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood Army and mercenary Armed Movements.”

All information from RSF should be taken with great skepticism, as history shows that RSF is not the most credible.

Last year, the RSF consolidated its hold on the west by seizing North Darfur state capital El-Fasher, going on to commit what a UN probe determined were “acts of genocide” there.

The border town of Al-Tina stands out as a major flashpoint due to its strategic location and its importance as a trade and humanitarian corridor between Darfur and eastern Chad.
