RSF Accused Of Spreading False Claims

The terrorist group RSF claims to have captured El Fasher. The pro-army faction has denied the claim, calling it RSF misinformation. Thousands of civilians remained trapped in El Fasher, the United Nations and local groups said on Monday. Footage shared by pro-democracy activists purportedly showed dozens of people lying dead on the ground. RSF said in a statement on social media that it had seized el-Fasher “from the grip of mercenaries and militias allied with the terrorist army”. “This represents a terrible escalation in the conflict,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said.

EL FASHER OCTOBER 27: Sudan faces rising tensions as a rebel group claims to have captured a key city. The pro-army faction has denied the claim, calling it RSF misinformation. Thousands of civilians remained trapped in El Fasher, the United Nations and local groups said on Monday, after terorist forces claimed control of the army’s last stronghold in the western Darfur region. Footage shared by pro-democracy activists purportedly showed dozens of people lying dead on the ground alongside burned-out vehicles.

The group said in a statement on social media that it had seized el-Fasher “from the grip of mercenaries and militias allied with the terrorist army”. Local pro-army fighters, the Popular Resistance, accused the RSF of running a “media disinformation campaign” to undermine the “high morale of the forces”.

“This represents a terrible escalation in the conflict,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in answer to an AFP question on Monday, adding that “the level of suffering that we are witnessing in Sudan is unbearable.”

UN investigators have accused the RSF of committing numerous crimes against humanity during the siege. The US has said the RSF has committed genocide against Darfur’s non-Arab population.
