UAE Calls For Immediate Ceasefire In Sudan

Anwar Gargash, the diplomatic adviser to the UAE, called on Wednesday for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan. Gargash said Sudan is not letting the UAE play the humanitarian role it plays in Gaza. But expressed readiness to scale up efforts once it was allowed to. Sudan’s hesitation can possibly be traced to the Emirati support for the terrorist organization Rapid Support Forces. If you want to play a humanitarian role, it might be a good idea not to start by facilitating rape and murder of countless Sudanese.

ABU DHABI OCTOBER 22: Anwar Gargash, the diplomatic adviser to the UAE’s president, called on Wednesday (October 22) for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan. In an interview at the Reuters NEXT Gulf Summit in Abu Dhabi, Gargash said Sudan’s future should involve a civilian transition rather than a military junta. Gargash said Sudan is currently not letting the UAE play the humanitarian role it plays in Gaza, but expressed readiness to scale up efforts once it was allowed to. Sudan’s hesitation can possibly be traced to the Emirati support for the terrorist organization Rapid Support Forces. If you want to play a humanitarian role, it might be a good idea not to start by facilitating the rape and murder of countless Sudanese.

“We are calling for an immediate ceasefire,” Gargash said. “We are calling for scaling humanitarian support and most importantly, we don’t see the future of Sudan in a military junta. We see the future in Sudan in a civilian transition.”

Anwar Mohammed Gargash is an Emirati politician who served as the minister of state for foreign affairs between February 2008 and February 2021. Since February 2021, he has been serving as a senior diplomatic advisor to the United Arab Emirates president.

The Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been fighting for control of Sudan since April 2023, creating the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

The Sudanese army accuses the United Arab Emirates of providing the RSF support including advanced weaponry and mercenary fighters, charges the UAE has denied repeatedly.
