DOHA SEPTEMBER 9: Loud explosions have been heard in Qatar’s capital, Doha. The IDF says it has targeted Hamas’s leadership in Qatar, after explosions were heard in its capital city, Doha. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority, citing a senior Israeli official, has reported that the explosions were the result of an attack against senior Hamas officials.
According to witnesses on site, smoke is visible over the Katara area and Hamas headquarters, reports TT, citing Israeli Keshet 12. A senior Hamas source has told Al Jazeera that leaders of the group have been targeted in Doha while was discussing US President Donald Trump’s proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Israel media said the attack was aimed at top Hamas leaders including Khalil al-Hayya, its exiled Gaza chief and top negotiator. Khalil al-Hayya is reported to have been killed.
The United States was reportedly notified before the attack, Reuters reports, citing an Israeli official. Qatar condemns the “cowardly Israeli attack” on Hamas headquarters in Doha, calling it a violation of international law, reports AP.
In Gaza, almost a million Gazans have been told to “leave now” – prompting thousands to flee south as Israel attacks Gaza City.
