TEHRAN JANUARY 23: Katie Halper talks to Dr Mohammad Marandi about the way Western media vilifies Iran and manufactures consent especially with regard to the latest wave of protests. Marandi, a professor at the University of Tehran, claims that most of the people killed in the protests in Iran were security personnel.

Seyed Mohammad Marandi (born 14 May 1966) is an American-Iranian academic, intellectual and political analyst. He is described by his website as a “prominent Iranian defender of the Islamic revolution”. Mohammad Marandi moved to Iran at the age of 13 when he volunteered to fight in the Iran–Iraq War under the Islamic Republic of Iran against President Saddam Hussein’s regime.

He portrays the Islamic Republic’s proxy forces in the Middle East as powerful actors who have not yet fully used their potential. He constantly threatens the West, claiming that any action against Iran will be met with severe consequences and “Iran’s real strength.”

He strongly condemns Western media criticism of Iran’s government, portraying it as threatening while ignoring the free coverage of protests in Western countries by their media. He attempted to discredit international media coverage of the protests in Iran.
